Held every Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:30 PM, starting on May 14th and skipping the half-term break on May 29th, this course focuses intensively on mastering the potter's wheel. Course Schedule and Curriculum: Week 1: Getting to Know Your Wheel (May 14) Safety and studio etiquette Introduction to the potter’s wheel and its parts Basic centering techniques and preparing your clay Week 2: Basic Forms on the Wheel (May 21) Centering and throwing basic cylinders Understanding the importance of wall thickness and base shape Throwing small bowls Week 3: Exploring Shapes (June 4) Techniques for throwing various shapes: bowls, plates, and vases Introduction to altering forms directly on the wheel Week 4: Advanced Wheel Techniques (June 11) Throwing larger pieces and sets Learning to control and adjust the height and form Techniques for lids and handles Week 5: Trimming and Finishing (June 18) Trimming foot rings and refining thrown pieces Surface decoration techniques while on the wheel Week 6: Glazing Your Creations (June 25) Glazing techniques specific to wheel-thrown pottery Applying underglazes and glazes Review and preparation of pieces for final firing Additional Information: All materials, including high-quality clay and a personal wheel per student, provided.
